Getting married is a once-in-a-lifetime experience; therefore, it needs meticulous planning. Couples would even go to great lengths to guarantee that it would be magical, one-of-a-kind, and everything they have ever imagined their wedding to be. Whether a wedding is formal and modern or laid-back and unique, it would definitely be one of the most memorable days of one’s life.

While planning a wedding event can be difficult, it can also be enjoyable and thrilling for the couple. When preparing for the wedding, it is crucial for them to properly evaluate every element and select the best choice for them.

Throughout the wedding planning process, there would already be booking of photographers, caterers, and venues, among other things. One of the most important things that should not be overlooked would be hiring a DJ for the wedding. Choosing the ideal DJ for a wedding is as critical as any other planning decision that the couple will make. A DJ for weddings is quite a necessity since he or she will be the one to set the tone for the wedding reception and personalize the ambiance depending on the newlywed’s style.

There is a number of factors that should be considered when hiring for a DJ for weddings. The wedding day is the most anticipated and carefully planned day; thus, finding a DJ that complements the personality of the couple is critical to pulling off an unforgettable wedding and reception. The following are some of the things that should be avoided when hiring a DJ for a wedding, hence, guaranteeing that the wedding would be a blast.

Inexperienced or lack of experience

One of the most costly and regrettable errors a couple could make is hiring an incompetent DJ. When it comes to hiring the ideal DJ for a wedding, experience is vital, and you would not want to opt for someone who has not been in the industry for a long period of time. The DJ must be reliable and should not be someone that would just “show up” at the wedding reception. The DJ must be competent and skilled enough to manage the vibe of the reception.

A skilled DJ for weddings understands how to assess a crowd, how to move into toasts as well as the first dances, how to announce the entry of the newly married couple effectively, and when to play the songs and select appropriate genres of music. Hiring a DJ who has a proven good track record and can do everything necessary to make the event successful is worth every penny.

Hiring an inexperienced DJ might have a number of negative consequences for one’s wedding day. An incompetent DJ can ruin the reception for a variety of reasons – from unprofessionalism to a lack of awareness of the sequence of events and protocol. It is important to make no compromises on experience when hiring a DJ to handle such a special day.

Hiring the cheapest DJ available

Being wary about the budget of a wedding is a vital part of planning. There are some couples who would want to splurge a big chunk of their budget for the wedding gown or venue, while there are also those who would prioritize food and entertainment. Therefore, a couple needs to establish their priorities so that they can create a budget that will work best for them.

You have probably heard the adage, “You get what you pay for,” and that is certainly true when it comes to hiring a DJ for weddings. Spending as little money as possible on hiring a DJ and intending to cut the wedding DJ fee may seem like a brilliant idea, but it very likely may end up being a mistake.

Hiring a cheap DJ might be a costly mistake for a variety of reasons. For example, a low-cost DJ might be inexperienced and less skilled than high-paying DJs. Another disadvantage of a cheap DJ is the possibility of equipment failure or a lack of high-quality equipment. A less costly DJ may lack the necessary equipment or may not be as trustworthy as a more expensive DJ for weddings.

Furthermore, unlike an established, professional DJ service, a “cheap” DJ might no longer be in the business by the time the wedding comes around. It could be possible that they are not paying enough to meet operational costs and are eventually unable to sustain their business adequately.

The DJ does not complement the couple’s style

Not only will a DJ keep the celebration on track for dances, toasts, and cake cutting, but they will also be responsible for motivating guests to enjoy, dance, and participate. It is recommended to find a DJ who can easily adapt styles that complement the wedding motif, tone, and couple’s style.

Would you prefer a DJ who is not hesitant to crack a joke or invite people to participate on the dance floor? Or would you opt for a DJ who can make your reception and ceremony more formal in nature and someone to deliver polite statements and strictly follow a schedule? In either case, the couple needs to feel that the DJ they choose would be happy to oblige their request and set the appropriate tone for the celebration.

The way the DJ handles a wedding reception could affect not just the guests but most especially the newlyweds. The last thing that they will need is a DJ who does not fit the theme of their wedding.

Guests can be put off by a DJ who fails to read the crowd right and is obnoxious or by a DJ who is uninteresting and does not engage the audience at all. Thus, it would be best to talk with the DJ personally and ensure that they understand the setting of the event.

Failure to book the DJ early on

While booking a DJ may not be the first priority on a wedding preparation timetable, waiting for a longer time in hiring one can be a wrong decision. One might just have to hire whoever is still available on the wedding day.

Mostly, the renowned and in-demand DJs already have their schedules fully booked for months. Hence, booking the desired DJ six to twelve months prior to the wedding date is recommended.
